Texas House strips vouchers from House Bill 1 in effort led by Rep. John Raney (R–Bryan).

The Select Committee on Educational Opportunity and Enrichment met Thursday to consider House Bill (HB) 1 by Chairman Brad Buckley (R–Salado), which includes a voucher in the form of an Education Savings Account (ESA). 

The committee will meet Thursday and Friday, Nov. 9-10, 2023. We strongly encourage all educators and supporters of public education to submit a comment to the committee.

Texas voters presented an overwhelming show of support for retired teachers, passing a cost-of-living adjustment for retired educators by the widest margin of the election.

The third special session has wrapped up without a deal on vouchers, one of Gov. Greg Abbott's (R) top priority bills.

Despite the drama in Austin, opposition to private school vouchers remains strong in the Texas House.
