First elected to the Texas House in 1992. Current term expires January 2027. Running for re-election; ran unopposed in the Democratic primary and will be on the November 2026 general election ballot.

Endorsed by the editorial board of the Dallas Morning News in the 2022 general election. She also received their endorsement in the 2016 election. 

Davis ran unopposed for re-election in 2020.

In the 2018 election, Davis was recommended favorably by Texans for Public Education, a grassroots educators' group that researched and rated candidates in the 2018 election based on their stances toward public schools.
