First elected to the Texas House in 1968 and is currently the longest serving state representative. Current term expires January 2027. Running for re-election; ran unopposed in the Republican primary and will be on the November 2026 general election ballot.
Craddick served as Speaker of the House from 2003-2008. He lost the speaker’s race to Joe Straus at the beginning of the 2009 legislative session.
Craddick ran unopposed for re-election in 2020.
In 2018, Craddick was recommended favorably by Texans for Public Education, a grassroots educators' group that researched and rated candidates in the 2018 election based on their stances toward public schools.
