First elected to the Texas House in 2016. Current term expires January 2027. Running for re-election in 2026; won the Republican primary for Texas House District 20 and will be on the November 2026 general election ballot.
Wilson defeated former incumbent Rep. Marsha Farney in the March 2016 Republican election. He was re-elected in 2018, 2020, and 2022.
Endorsed in the 2024 Republican primary election by Gov. Greg Abbott. Abbott is endorsing incumbents who supported his voucher bill, HB 1, in the fourth special session of the 88th Legislature.
Endorsed by the editorial board of the Austin American-Statesman in the 2022 Republican primary election and in the May 2022 Republican primary runoff election.
Endorsed in the 2022 general election and Republican primary runoff election by the Texas Home School Coalition, which supports using public funds for private and home-schools, giving private and home-schooled students greater access to public education services, and limiting state oversight of private and home schools. He also received their endorsement in the 2016 election
Endorsed in the 2016 Republican primary and general election by Texans for Fiscal Responsibility (Empower Texans), a group that has supported budget cuts and limiting state spending on public education; eliminating educators' and other public employees' rights to use payroll deduction for payment of their voluntary dues to professional organizations; private school vouchers; and privatizing the management of existing public schools.
