First elected to the Texas House in 2015. He was defeated in his 2018 reelection bid. He was reelected to the House in 2020. Current term expires January 2027. Running for re-election; ran unopposed in the Republican primary and will be on the November 2026 general election ballot.
Previously worked as a policy adviser to former Gov. Rick Perry.
Endorsed in the 2022 general election and Republican primary election by the Texas Home School Coalition, which supports using public funds for private and home-schools, giving private and home-schooled students greater access to public education services, and limiting state oversight of private and home schools. He also received the group's endorsement in the 2020 and 2016 elections.
Endorsed by the editorial board of the Houston Chronicle in the 2022 Republican primary election. He also received their endorsement in the 2020 Republican primary election.
Schofield also ran unsuccessfully for state representative in 2006.
