First elected to the Texas House in 2020. Current term expires January 2027. Running for re-election; ran unopposed in the Republican primary for Texas House District 25 and will be on the November 2026 general election ballot.

Endorsed in the 2024 Republican primary election by Gov. Greg Abbott. Abbott is endorsing incumbents who supported his voucher bill, HB 1, in the fourth special session of the 88th Legislature.

Vasut was unopposed in his 2022 reelection bid.

Endorsed in the 2020 general election by the Texas Home School Coalition PAC, which supports using public funds for private and home-schools, giving private and home-schooled students greater access to public education services, and limiting state oversight of private and home schools. Vasut also received the group's endorsement during the 2020 Republican primary runoff election.
