Geren's campaign sent the following message in response to the 2018 ATPE Candidate Survey:
"State Representative Charlie Geren has consistently fought on behalf of public schools and educators since he first took office. In the most recent session, Geren joined responsible legislators in the House to provide $351 million in additional funding for public schools, as well as to provide a $212 million infusion to the Teacher Retirement System (TRS). His support for public education is nothing new. In fact, Texas Monthly named him one of the state's 'best legislators' back in 2005 thanks to his role in thwarting efforts to adversely impact public education in Texas."
"This cycle, Representative Geren has met with countless educators, school administrators, parents, and other school advocates stressing the importance of making their voices heard in the March Primary."
"Geren believes the current TRS crisis retired teachers are facing, combined with the growing need to properly address the state's public school finance system, will be at the forefront of the 86th Texas Legislature. Therefore, Geren said it is critical for educators to participate in the March primary election and to support candidates who, like him, will adamantly defend public education and educators."
