Additional Information from ATPE

First elected to the Texas Senate in 2014. Current term expires January 2027. Running for re-election in the 2026 Republican primary.

Perry won a special election in Sept. 2014 to fill the unexpired term of former Sen. Robert Duncan (R-Lubbock) who resigned. Perry previously served as State Representative for House District 83 from 2010-2014.

Endorsed in the 2022 Republican primary election by the Texas Home School Coalition, which supports using public funds for private and home-schools, giving private and home-schooled students greater access to public education services, and limiting state oversight of private and home schools. Perry also received the group's endorsement in the 2016 election.

Endorsed in previous elections by Texans for Fiscal Responsibility (Empower Texans), a group that has supported budget cuts and limiting state spending on public education, as well as private school vouchers.

In previous elections, received campaign contributions of $25,000 or more from a political action committee formed by Texans for Education Reform (TER), an entity that has lobbied extensively for school choice and privatization of public schools, expansion of charter and virtual schools, tying teacher evaluations to student test scores, reducing teachers' contract rights and benefits and extending credit by exam provisions for students.
