Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick appointed Creighton in March 2022 to chair the Senate Education Committee. Creighton previously chaired the Senate Higher Education Committee.
Creighton won a special election to fill the unexpired term of former Sen. Tommy Williams, who resigned in October 2013. Creighton previously served as a State Representative for House District 16, where he was first elected to the Texas House in 2006.
Endorsed in the 2022 general election and Republican primary election by the he Texas Home School Coalition, which supports using public funds for private and home-schools, giving private and home-schooled students greater access to public education services, and limiting state oversight of private and home schools. Creighton also received the group's endorsement in the 2020 and 2016 elections.
