First elected to the Texas Senate in 2016 after previously serving in the Texas House. Current term expires January 2027. This race will not be on the ballot in 2024.
Miles was elected to one term in the Texas House in 2006. After being defeated in his 2008 re-election bid, Miles was re-elected to the same seat in 2010 and served through 2016. Running for re-election in the 2026 Democratic primary.
In July 2016, Miles was appointed by Democratic party precinct chairs to take the place of former Sen. Rodney Ellis (D-Houston) on the November 2016 ballot for this Senate seat, after Ellis decided to run for Harris County Commissioner.
